Thoubal, April 24 2019: Observance of Khongjom Day in commemoration to the 1891 Anglo-Manipuri War has been made meaningless this year as the government seems to be diluting the history of Khongjom war by publishing a booklet called "Go to Village Mission" in connection with the day by the DIPR.

This was stated by the President of the Khongjom War Memorial Trust (KWMT), M.Hemanta while talking to reporters today.

"Is the government trying to conceal the history of the Khongjom War from the future generation by publishing a booklet called "Go to Village Mission"?" asked M.Hemanta adding that from next year the government might publish Booklet called "Go to School" on Khongjom day.

"We have missed Manipur Today's Special issue of Manipur Today on Khongjom Day this year", Hemanta said and added that every year DIPR publish special issue of Manipur Today which content articles related to Khongjom War and those who had laid down their life fighting for the freedom of the nation in 1891 .

Reacting to Imphal Times news story published yesterday under the heading "People unhappy with DIPR Journal on Khongjom Day" at which this newspaper highlighted that the booklet or the journal published in connection with the Khongjom day has no relevance with the Khongjom War of 1891.Hemanta said that it is a matter of shame for the state government to publish booklet which contain no article related to Khongjom Day with a cover of the Chief Minister and Prime Minister highlighting about "Go to Village Mission" .

It is nothing but an attempt to mislead the observance of Khongjom day, said the President of Khongjom War Memorial Trust (KWMT) .

He said that the people of Manipur knows better about Khongjom Day and since 1972 the day has been observing to commemorate the battle of Khongjom and booklet related to Khongjom Day used to publish to pass on the history of Khongjom Day to the future generation.

The booklet with cover page "Go to Village Mission" with articles related to the achievement of the government should have been published on other function as publication of such booklet is meaningless to the observance of Khongjom Day.

Hemanta also questioned if the government is planning to sabotage the history of the state.

Vice President of Khongjom War Memorial Trust, H.Biren Singh, Secretary, Th Surendra Singh and joint secretary S.Sangkar Singh were also present during the meeting with the media person today.
