AFC, IFA make winning starts in AMFA Cup

Imphal, June 22 2024:
Angtha FC and Imphal FA prevailed as the 3rd AMFA Cup 2023-24 kicked off at Artificial Turf Ground, Lamlong Thongkhong on Saturday.
Konthoujam Dhruv Singh scored at both ends to propel Angtha FC to a convincing 3-1 win over Ground Development Committee (GDC) in the tournament opener.
Both sides were well matched in the early stages of the game until Dhruv put Angtha FC in front with a sublime finish in the 34th minute.
After their breakthrough, Angtha FC grew in confidence and ramped up the intensity upfront, and they were rewarded in the 42nd minute when Konthoujam Donel Singh found the back of the net, heading into the second half.
GDC narrowed the deficit in the 52nd minute through Ningthoujam Quintan Singh but they failed to improve in the remaining minutes of contest.
With few seconds remaining, Dhruv was at it again scoring his second and team's third goal to close out the game in style.
Later, Imphal FA came through a tight tussle to grind out a 1-0 success against XI Star Sporting Union.
LT Lowly turned out to be the hero as his strike in the 36th minute made all the difference at the end of the match.
