WFA labour to win as SSU, AFC split points in 2nd Premier League

Imphal, July 12 2025: WFA scored in both halves to edge past ABA 2-1, while SSU and Angtha FC played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in a match that ebbed and flowed until the final whistle in Saturday's matches of the 2nd Premier League at SAI Ground, Takyel.

WFA took control early in the first half, with Shou-grakpam Netrejit breaking the deadlock in the 36th minute, sending his side into the break with a slender advantage.

However, ABA emerged with renewed determination after the interval, and their persistence paid off when Ningthoujam Dhanaraj struck the equaliser in the 59th minute, setting up a tense finale.

Undeterred, WFA responded swiftly, restoring their lead just six minutes later through Chirom Shinivash, who capitalised on a defensive lapse to make it 2-1 in the 65th minute.

Despite ABA's spirited efforts to salvage a result, WFA's defence stood firm, seeing out the game to secure a crucial win.

The day's other fixture saw SSU and Angtha FC engage in a thrilling encounter that ended honours even.

SSU raced into an early lead, with Sharangthem Rajdan opening the scoring in the 27th minute before Suraj Yumnam added a second just three minutes later, seemingly putting his side in command.

However, Angtha FC refused to capitulate, pulling a goal back before halftime through Th D Thangabar in the 36th minute.

The momentum shifted further in the second half, with Julian Keishing completing the comeback in the 69th minute with a well-taken leveller.

The closing stages saw both sides push for a winner, with chances created at either end, but neither could find the decisive breakthrough, ensuring the points were shared in what was a fiercely competitive affair.
