ALSM 2022 football: Thamlapokpi, Angkhel Chayang set up summit clash

Imphal, May 26 2022: Thamlapokpi and Angkhel Chayang will face each other in the football final of the All Lamkang Sports Meet 2022 after the two teams triumphed in their semifinal matches on Thursday.

The first semifinal saw Thamlapokpi pull off a 3-2 win over Haika Khuwbul at Angkhel Chayang village, Chandel.

Th Warngam opened the scoring for Thamlapokpi in the 10th minute as Haika Khuwbul put themselves on level terms in the second half when Rengdon converted in the 62nd minute.

After conceding, Thamlapokpi regained their lead in the 65th minute with Th Warngam scoring his second goal before Sk Darpol made it 3-1 in a one-minute span.

Haika fought hard in the hope of catching up but a resolute defence put up Thamlapokpi fended off their attempts.

Haika could only manage to reduce the deficit in the final seconds of injury time through Kamningwar as Thamlapokpi stood their ground to eventually emerge 3-2 victors for their place in the final.

Angkhel Ghayang, meanwhile, hardly broke a sweat on their way to the final as they inflicted a crushing 8-0 defeat on P Ralringkhu in their semifinal encounter.

Bunghong led the rout with a treble (13', 14', 23') as Bungpem (2', 27') and Renghon (45', 80') netted a double each, with Rengshel (33') chipping in with one.

The final match between Angkhel Chayang and Thaml apokpi will take place on May 30 at 11 am.

In volleyball, both Angkhel Chayang and Laiktla prevailed in their respective semifinal matches to set up men's title clash.

Angkhel beat Kotal Khunthak by a 3-1 margin while Laiktla defeated Kongpe 3-0 in their semifinals.

In women's event, Thamlapokpi cruised past Phaidaam 3-0 and Laiktla outclassed Haika Khuwbul by similar margin (3-0) to meet in the final.

Both men's and women's volleyball final matches will be played on May 30 .
