79th Santosh Trophy : Manipur beat Mizoram 3-1 to finish Group D runners up

Imphal, December 19 2025: Manipur bounced back in the 79th National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy Group D competition with a 3-1 beating of Mizoram this afternoon at Umakanta Mini Stadium.

Manipur who suffered a 0-3 loss in the hands of Nagaland in the previous match enjoyed a 2-0 first half lead today before scoring another in the second half to earn the 3-1 win.

Manipur took 17 minutes to earn the lead courtesy of Phijam Sanathoi before Longjam Ronald doubled the advantage in the 36th minute.

After the restart, Ningombam Kabiraj further extended the lead to 3-0 after 55 minutes before Freddy Lalrinkima scored the consolation goal for Mizoram in the 85th minute.

The win was however not enough for Manipur to advance to the next stage as they finished group runners up behind Nagaland, who played out a 1-1 draw with Tripura and capped their league campaign unbeaten, having secured two back to back wins earlier.
