Imphal, January 17 2025: The Colonel Viplav Tripathi Memorial Football Tournament kicked off on Friday at Tuibong Peace Ground in Churachandpur district.

The tournament is being organised in memory of Col Viplav Tripathi, rifleman RP Meena, rifleman NK Konyak, rifleman Suman Swargiary, and rifleman Shyamal Das of the 46 Assam Rifles, who sacrificed their lives in service to the nation in November 2021 while engaging in counter-insurgency operations in Manipur.

The tournament features eight boys' teams and six girls' teams from Churachandpur district, all competing.

The event will culminate with the final match at the end of this month, alongside a solemn homage to these brave soldiers.

The opening ceremony witnessed a gathering of dignitaries, players, and local residents, all united to honour the bravery and dedication of our heroes.

This event aims to promote the values of courage, teamwork, and resilience while keeping the legacy of these brave souls alive, said an IGAR (S) press release.
