SSU to play in I-League Div-III

Southern Sporting Union (SSU), Singjamei will compete for top honours in the I-League 3rd Division for the 2024-25 season organised by All India Football Federation (AIFF).
Informing this during a media briefing at its Kakwa office, SSU president Kh Ibopishak expressed elation that the long-cherished dream of SSU to play in the I-League has been realised.
He said SSU formed in 1961 took part in the 3rd division junior league organised by the then All Manipur Sports Association for the first time and emerged runners-up.
The club was then promoted to 2nd Division which gave a lot of inspiration and accordingly the club managed to play 1st Division league, Super Division league, Manipur state league and even emerged champions of the 7th Manipur state league in 2012 .
The club got the opportunity to play in the 1st Manipur Premier League after finishing runners-up in the 14th Manipur state league held in 2021.According to Kh Ibopishak, SSU won the CC Meet four times and secured runners-up titles five times from 1994 to 2024 apart from emerging champions and runners-up in national level tournaments.
Even though the club was declared joint winner of Manipur Premier League with ASUFi Mao for the 2023-24 season, SSU secured the top position based on the points table and accordingly AIFF nominated the club for 3rd Division I-League for the 2024-25 season, he said adding that SSU will represent Manipur in 3rd Division I-League for the season.
