Pushpa Chanu fights against all odds to win medal

In an inspiring tale of grit and passion, an internally displaced person of Urup OBC Girls Hostel relief camp, Irengbam Pushpa Chanu, brought laurels to the state by clinching silver medal at the 8th International Karate Championship Indian Challenger Cup 2024 held at Kolkata from July 26 to 28, 2024 .
Hailing from Ward No 9, Moreh, and bom to Irengbam Doren Meitei and Irengbam Mikhubi, Pushpa Chanu is currently studying in Class 10 at Urup Higher Secondary School.
Unperturbed by tragic circumstances befalling her in the aftermath of May 3, 2023 violence in the state, she chose to wield her own destiny.
Driven by passion of the sport since 2018, she trained relentlessly under the guidance of coach Ar-ambam Grayson for the coveted podium honour.
In the darkest hour, clinging to unflinching faith in herself, Pushpa chose to shine like a diamond.
Meanwhile, the Imphal East district administration praised Irengbam Pushpa Chanu's indomitable spirit and congratulated the karateka on her memorable achievement.
"Her story is an ode to people who are making relentless efforts to achieve their dreams despite the setbacks and unfortunate series of events being played out in the state and a gentle reminder to keep persevering and shine in times to come, " it said in a congratulatory message.
