3rd Lt Col Robert TA Memorial Badminton Tournament ends

The 3rd Lt Col Robert TA Memorial Badminton Tournament 2024, organised by Indian Army under Operation Sadbhavana, concluded on September 27 at Rikhumai Tophou Indoor Badminton Hall, Senapati district.
The tournament, which began on September 23, was held in memory of Lieut Col Robert TA, the first officer from the Maram Naga community to join the Indian Army.
Commissioned into the Engineer Regiment in 2004, Robert made the supreme sacrifice on May 14, 2020 during a snow clearance expedition in North Sikkim, leading his team amidst an avalanche, said a press release from PRO, Ministry of Defence, Manipur, Nagaland & Southern Arunachal Pradesh.
Over the course of five days, 210 men and women of various age groups participated in more than 170 matches, competing in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles categories.
The final matches of the men's singles and women's doubles categories were played during the closing ceremony, which was attended by Chingpai Rangnamei, wife of late Lt Col Robert, senior Army officers and other dignitaries.
Winners and runners-up were suitably rewarded, the release further said.
The Indian Army 's tournament in Senapati district showcased local youth's sporting talents, fostering a vibrant sports culture and honouring brave soldiers, it added.
