SCCC, CYCLONE post contrasting wins in MNCA Elite Tournament

SCCC and CYCLONE recorded contrasting victories in Thursday's league matches of the 9th MNCA Elite Tournament 2024-25.SCCC outclassed TRAU by 6 wickets in their meeting at Moijing Public Ground, Thoubal.
Chasing a target of 232, SCCC sealed the win with three overs to spare, showcasing a dominant batting display.
SCCC captain Ulenyai Khwairakpam elected to field after winning the toss.
TRAU posted a competitive 231/4 in their 40 overs, anchored by skipper Priyojit Kangabam's stellar century (109 off 112 balls, 12 fours, 3 sixes) .
Sanjembam Somokan-ta Khuman provided crucial support with an unbeaten 70, while Bikash Singh.
(2/44) stood out for SCCC's bowling attack.
TRAU's innings saw early wobbles, but a 152-run partnership between Kangabam and Somokanta steadied the ship.
SCCC's reply was spearheaded by captain Ulenyai, who smashed a brisk 74 off 61 deliveries, including 12 boundaries.
Khwairakpam Rinju (69* off 75 balls) and Basant (21* off 21) ensured a composed finish after middle-order contributions from Phijam Langamba (20) and Bikash (21) .
TRAU's Mutum Swabhiman (2/39) and Puinachandra Sharma Anoubam (1/44) struck key blows but failed to contain the chase.
CYCLONE, meanwhile, narrowly defeated MODEL by 4 runs in a nail-biting match at Lairenjam Public Ground.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, CYCLONE posted 147 all out in 35.4 overs, with MODEL falling agonisingly short at 143 in 37.1 overs during their chase.
CYCLONE's innings saw contributions from captain Loktongbam Santosh Meitei (17 off 22) and Kishan Laishram (31 off 55), but regular wickets kept the scoring in check.
MODEL's captain Langlonyamba M starred with the ball, claiming 4/21 in 6 overs, supported by Dibak Naorem (3/21) and Reolin Oinam (4/23).Extras (30) significantly bolstered CYCLONE's total, with 15 wides proving costly for MODEL.
In reply, MODEL's chase was led by skipper Langlonyamba, who top-scored with a gritty 50 off 79 balls.
However, CYCLONE's bowlers struck at critical junctures, with Reolin Oinam (4/23) and Md Ageel (2/32) dismantling the middle order.
Despite a late fight from Bijenkumar Nongmaithem (11) and Bisal Ningombam (7), MODEL collapsed from 126/8 to 143 all out, falling short by 4 runs.
