Jirbam boys, Kakching girls clinch titles in State IN Hockey Tournament

Lalpani Govt High School (Jiribam) and Iramdam Maheikoi (Langmeidong, Kakching) won titles in the State Level Jawaharlal Nehru Hockey Tournament 2024 .
Lalpani Govt High School fought back from a goal down to pull off a 5-2 win over UN-ACCO School (Imphal West) to win the U-17 boys' competition at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium on Friday.
It was the Jiribam side's second straight victory in the three-team U-17 boys' event, earning them the title.
In their first match on August 21, the Lalpani Govt High School team strolled toa 10-1 success against Jai Hind High School (Mantripukhri, Imphal East).
In their second match on Friday, Jiribam trailed when N Gerir Singh converted eight minutes into the game to give UNACCO (Imphal West) the upper hand.
However, S Sanson Singh made it all square for the Jiribam squad with a 10th-minute strike.
They then stamped their authority after W Derish Singh scored in the 25th minute and K Sanjit Singh found their third goal in the 35th minute before Malemnganba AK further stretched their advantage in the 38th minute, giving Jiribam a commanding 5-1 lead.
Imphal West scored their second goal in the 48th minute through Wahengbam Paikhomba but it was too little too late as Jiribam defended well to enjoy a memorable title triumph.
Iramdam Maheikoi (Kakching), meanwhile, won the U-17 girls' event.
Lalpani Govt High School (Jiribam) and TG English School (Bishnupur) will square off in the final of the U-15 boys' section on Saturday, August 24, 2024 .
