Dayanand retains Kangba chess title

With an overall score of 7 points, Dayanand Thoudam of Shishu Nishtha Niketan retained the title of the Kangba Junior U-20 Classical Chess Tournament, which concluded on Sunday at Ningomthong Bazar community hall, Imphal East.
As per a release by Kangba Chess Academy (KCA), Dayanand, a FIDE rated player (classical elo rating 1607) defeated Lairenmayum Kanishkar (unrated player) in the last and 7th round, to defend the title for second time.
Another title win in the third edition will make Dayanand eligible for national sponsorship of the KCA.
The tournament organised by KCA and conducted under the supervision Ngairangbam Ratan Singh, an AICF national arbiter, was participated by 56 players including eight FIDE rated players and 10 girls.
The second position was won by Sinthoiba Ningthemcha(5.5 points) of KV, Imphal No 2 and third by Yaiphaba Yumnam (5.5 points) of St Joseph's Higher Secondary School.
