Imphal, June 22 2025:
The state's contingent enjoyed another successful day at the 6th Junior Boys' and Girls' National Boxing Championship 2025 in Rohtak, Haryana, as six additional pugilists booked their places in the quarterfinals during Sunday's action-packed session.
In the girls' division, the state's rising stars demonstrated both technical prowess and fighting spirit.
Lamameilu Gangmei (48kg) outclassed Kerala's Anidyasree Sivasankeri, Riya Heikham (50kg) delivered a commanding performance against Adhya N (Kerala), and Radhamani Longjam (57kg) prevailed over Haryana's Sakshi to guarantee their progression.
The boys' team matched their female counterparts with an equally impressive showing.
Lanchenba Singh (50kg) showcased his ring intelligence in a tactically astute 4-1 victory over Goa's Arun Lamani, effectively countering his opponent's aggressive style.
Karung Albertson Kom (57kg) displayed remarkable composure to overcome Tamil Nadu's B Sanjay by an identical margin in a bout that saw multiple momentum shifts.
Perhaps the most dominant performance came from Lairenlakpam Ambekar Meetei (48kg), who completely outclassed Punjab's Ridham Sharma to earn a comprehensive 5-0 whitewash, leaving no doubt about his quarterfinal credentials.
Not all results went the state's way, however.
In one of the day's most closely contested bouts, Moirangthem Khrismira fell just short in a 3-2 split decision against Delhi's Laxmi in the girls' 46kg category.
Similarly, Usham Thouna's valiant effort in the boys' 46kg division ended in heartbreak as he dropped a 2-3 verdict to Goa's Vignesh Kolar in a back-and-forth encounter that could have gone either way.
With these results, Manipur now have 12 boxers - six boys and six girls - through to the quarterfinals, maintaining a strong presence in the tournament.
