Chumbang FC outclass Japhou to capture Kapaam Cup title

Imphal, July 06 2024: Chumbang FC lifted the 4th Kapaam Invitation Cup 2024 title with a 4-1 drubbing of Japhou YC in a one-side final match played at Kapaam village in Chandel on Saturday.

Winkle scored twice in their memorable triumph as Kapaam staged a second-half surge from a goal down in the first half to get their hands on the championship trophy.

Japhou gained the upper hand in the first half with a goal from Reikiveiche, who made his strike count in the 22nd minute.

After the restart, Chumbang went all out and turned tables on their opponents as Winkle drew level for Chumbang in the 50th minute, and Julian made it 2-1 in the 58th minute before Ahong found their third in the 87th minute.

Then Winkle was on target for the second time in the third minute of injury time to ensure Chumbang FC won the 4th Kapaam Invitation Cup in dominant fashion.

Winkle was named the best player of the tournament while Bunghring (Chumbang FC) earned the best goalkeeper trophy.

Champions Chumbang FC walked home with Rs 50,000 in prize money' while Japhou YC received Rs 25,000 .
