Governor's Cup Polo Tournament : Chingkheihunba Polo Club emerge men's champions, Imphal Riding Club clinch women's title

Chingkheihunba Polo Club (CHPC) outclassed MPSC-B 9-4 to become the champions of the 28th Governor's Cup Invitation Polo Tournament 2018 while Imphal Riding Polo Club thrashed K&MM Riding School to claim the title of the 17th Governor's Cup Women's Polo Tournament, 2018 organised at Mapal Kangjeibung today.
The closing ceremony of the tournaments organised by Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association was attended by Governor Dr Najma Heptulla, Y Khemchand Singh, Speaker, Manipur Legislative Assembly as chief guest and functional president who also gave away prizes to the winners and other participants.
In the women's final match, Imphal Riding Club enjoyed free hand today right from the first chukker to demolish K&MM Riding School gradually.
Kh Deventy scored three goals in this one sided match while Kh Habe made another two goals.
A Romabati and S Langlen also contributed one goal apiece to hand their team the title shot.
Imphal Riding Club took the 6-0 lead until the third chukker with two goals in the first chukker, three goals in the second chukker and a single in the third chukker.
Kh Habe opened up the account in the 1.16th minute before A Romabati hit another in the 5.25th minute.
Kh Deventy struck the first goal of the second chukker while S Langlen and Kh Habe thronged the opponents half to chip one goal each in the 3.27th minute and 7.17th minute respectively.
Deventy then scored the single in the third chukker.
The last chukker saw S Sangita of K&MM Riding School take her time and grab a consolation goal in the 5.13rd minute.
Imphal Riding Club did not slacken easily and it was Kh Habe who hit another goal to wrap the game 7-1.The men's final was almost similar as Chingkheihunba Polo Club's Th Kaoba ran riot over MPSC-B to round off the game 9-4.Th Kaoba struck the opener when the game was not even half a minute old before striking his second goal in the 6.13rd minute to give his team a 3-1 lead in the first chukker.
T Pradeepkumar of MPSC-B found the parity in the 4.04th minute but Leishemba of the winning side broke the deadlock and gave CHPC the lost lead again in the 5.44th minute.
The second chukker saw both teams trying hard to find the target but it was Th Kaoba who managed to grab one in the 7.03rd minute and extended the lead to 4-1.Kaoba (2.19' and 4.36') and A Basanta (3.42' and 5.45') then took charge to score two goals each in the third chukker and underlined their dominance while M Jawan of MPSC-B grabbed a single in the 6.54th minute to make the scoreline read 2-8.Though MPSC-B were lagging back by huge deficit, they made some serious play in the last chukker but ended with two goals only, one each from the sticks of M Jawan and T Pradeepkumar.
L Kokeshwor of CHPC then struck the finisher in the 6.23rd minute and sealed the game 9-4 to lift the title cup.
The winners of men's tournament, CHPC were felicitated with Rs 50,000 along with a trophy while runners up MPSC-B were awarded Rs 40,000 along with trophy.
Semifinalists, MPSC-A and X Polo Club were also given consolation prizes of Rs 10,000 each.
Other participants of the tournament were also given Rs 3,000 each.
Best marching contingent, DGAR Polo team were also felicitated with Rs 3,000.Imphal Riding Club, winners for women walked away Rs 20,000 richer while runners up K&MM Riding School got Rs 15,000.Semi-finalists Thangmeiband Youth Polo Club were also encouraged with Rs 3,000 .
