69th State Jr Badminton Championship kicks off

The 69th State Open Junior Badminton Championship 2025 got underway on Wednesday, marking the start of four days of competitive action featuring the state's promising young shuttlers.
The opening day delivered a lively display of talent as players across age groups and districts battled for early supremacy in their respective categories.
The day commenced with the boys' singles U13 Round of 64, where Loyangamba Leishungbam (IEDBA) defeated Riyosnganba Soubam (TDBA) in straight sets, 2116, 21-13 .
Similarly, Jupiter Karam (IWDBA) breezed past Hercules Laishram (BDBA) 21-14, 21-9 .
The girls' singles U13 Round of 16 also saw commanding performances, with Ushmita Thingom (IWDBA) dominating Nishi-ta Chandam (IWDBA) 21-6, 21-8 .
Notable among the early morning highlights was Jia Sanabam's (IWDBA) tightly contested win over Elangbam Thoihenbi Devi (KDBA), finishing 22-20, 24-22 in one of the most gripping encounters of the day.
The boys' doubles U13 Round of 16 featured an exciting three-setter, where Hercules Laishram and Kelvin Thiyam (BDBA) made a stunning comeback to defeat Kongkham Mangal and Rajkumar Bhumikanta (IWDBA/ IEDBA) 15-21, 22-20, 21-14 .
Meanwhile, in the girls' singles U9 quarterfinals, Polem Tileinganbi (IWDBA) overcame a tough challenge from Shiloh Phashun Shim-rah (UDBA) with scores of 21-9, 23-21 .
Other impressive performances included Hidangbam Bishal Sharma and Longjam Biyas Meetei (BDBA) winning their doubles match in straight sets and Luching Yambem (IEDBA) storming into the U9 boys' singles quarterfinals with a 21-7, 21-9 win over Paikhomba Huidrom (BDBA) .
