Imphal/Kpi, September 15 2026: LLYC and KYLSC emerged the winners of the men and women's volleyball tournament organised by GC CRPF under the aegis of the Manipur and Nagaland Sector CRPF and in collaboration with Sports Authority of India.

In the two-day tournament organised under the Sports for Peace and Development Across the Nation (SPANDAN) initiative of Khelo India Mission, LLYC beat TAOSANG in straight sets (2-0) to seal the men's title as YTVC finished third.

In the women's competition final, KYLSC registered straight sets (2-0) win over SCYC to secure the top honour.

Manipur University team on the other hand finished third in this competition.

The opening and the closing ceremony of the tournament was presided over by Anil Kumar Bhardwaj, DIG, GC CRPF Imphal and Padmashree, Arjuna and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awardee, N Kunjarani and Veer Mata, Ngashepam Nemcha Devi, mother of Shaheed N Manoranjan Singh, Asst Comdt as guests of honour.

The podium finishers were feted with a cash prize of Rs 10,000; Rs 6,000 and Rs 4,000 respectively, said a press release issued by GC CRPF Imphal.

Liberal College win women's volleyball tournament

The day also saw Liberal College beat Imphal College to seal the title of the 2-day women's volleyball tournament organised by 69 Bn CRPF at Liberal College, Luwangsangbam under SPANDAN initiative.

The final match was graced by Padmashree, Arjuna and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awardee, N Kunjarani who is also a retired Commandant of CPRF, as chief guest.

Prof N Sanjoy, Principal, Liberal College; Prof Dr W Pradip Kumar, VP, Liberal College; SA Rojan Zimik, Comdt 69 Bn CRPF; Pramod Chaudhari 2I-C 69 Bn CRPF; and others attended the closing function.

Winners Liberal College and runners up Imphal College were feted with a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and Rs 6,000 respectively.

Sendme Mechek of Imphal College; Fanny Mk of Liberal College, Remthar Thoirei of Imphal College and Tongsin Shangnihman of Liberal College were also adjudged most valuable player, best attacker, best server and best setter respectively and feted with a cash prize of Rs 1,000 each.

KPI sees kabaddi, cycling and marathon events

Under the SPANDAN initiative, CRPF Battalions in Kangpokpi also hosted kabaddi, cycling and marathon events.

At Yaikongpao village, 112 Battalion CRPF organised a men's kabaddi tournament in which eight teams representing Tumnoupokpi (Tisa), Daili (Eagle), Yaikongpao (Bulls), Mahika, Kalapahar (Khalkhola Pro), Lower Thangamba, Phyapou and Liyai (Lklyso) participated.

After a day-long competition, Lower Thangamba emerged victorious, defeating Yaikongpao in the final, while Mahika secured third place.

The winners, runners-up and third-place teams received cash prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000 and Rs 4,000 respectively, along with medals and certificates.

At Motbung, C/112 Battalion CRPF organised a 10-km men's cycling event, beginning from Motbung Bazar on NH-2 and passing through Pangmol, Songlung, Mongpijang and Saparmaina before returning to the finishing point.

Lamtinlal Singsit won the cycling event with a time of 28 minutes 10 seconds, followed by Thanggoumang Haokip in 29 minutes 27 seconds and Lamginlen Vaiphei in 30 minutes 45 seconds.

The winners received cash prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively, besides medals and certificates.

All participants were also felicitated.

Notably, two veterans aged above 45 years, Satngam Kipgen and Krishna Bahadur Karki, also took part in the cycling event, underscoring the organisers' emphasis on participation across age groups.

Meanwhile, A/67 Battalion CRPF conducted a 10-km marathon at Makui village along the IT Road, attracting enthusiastic participation from local youth and residents of surrounding villages.

Gospel Chawangting-duimai won the marathon with a time of 36 minutes 12 seconds, while Chunchambou Wijunamai and Robert Nikhanamai finished second and third in 38 minutes 26 seconds and 39 minutes 51 seconds respectively.

The winners were awarded cash prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 6,000 and Rs 4,000 respectively, along with medals and certificates, while all participants received certificates in recognition of their efforts.

The three events, spread across different locations of Kangpokpi and involving local communities including Kuki and Naga participants, reflect the CRPF's attempt to use sports not merely as recreation but as a means of reconnecting communities, engaging young people and creating a sense of normalcy in a conflict-affected region.
