State level boxing championship begins

Imphal, July 21 2025:
The State Level Boxing Championships for U15 Boys & Girls, U17 Boys & Girls, U19 Men & Women, Elite Men & Women organised by Manipur Amateur Boxing Association (MABA) commenced at Khuman Lampak Boxing Arena on Monday.
The opening ceremony of the championship was attended by Manipur Olympic Association (MOA) senior vice president K Baruni Singh as chief guest, MABA president N Rimotkumar Meitei as functional president and Dronacharya awardee L Ibomcha Singh as guest of honour.

On the opening day, 18 boxers sealed their semi-final berths in different weight categories.
In U15 boys' quarterfinals, Saikhom Rojit Singh (52 kg) of Thoubal received walkover as Konthoujam Raju Singh (61 kg) of Imphal East beat Thongam Jackson Singh (Imphal West) by 4-1 points.
In U17 boys, Maisam Renson Singh (46 kg) of Kakching out-boxed Laishram Renson Meitei (IW) by 5-0 points, Ningthoujam Akaba Singh (50 kg) overwhelmed Ningthoujam Nikhel Meitei (Bishnupur) by 5-0 points, Moibungkhongbam Lanchenba Singh (50 kg) of Kakching outplayed Yangambam Srinivash Singh (Thoubal) by 5-0 points, Thongram Manithoiba Meitei (52 kg) of Thoubal pulverised Martin Khundrakpam (IE) by 5-0 points, Salam Diamond Singh (54 kg) of IW beat Kharibam Leishemba (IE) by 4-1 points, Khaidem Lanchenba Meitei (60 kg) of Kakching won against Karung Albertson Kom (Chandel) 3-2 points, Sandham Victor Singh (60 kg) of IE won by Referee Stops Contest (RSC) over Laishram Jamesh Singh (Thoubal), while Yengkhom Abinash Singh of Kakching received a walkover.
Salam Chajers Singh (55 kg) of Kakching outclassed Matunmi Kashung (Ukhrul) by 5-0 points and Md Abdul Noor (55kg) of IE got better of Chongtham Naoba Singh (IW) by 3-2 points in U19 men's quarterfinals.
In U15 girls' bouts, Sara Laishram (49 kg) of Thoubal defeated Salam Langlen Devi (IW) by 4-1 points, while Thingnam Malemnganbi Chanu (52 kg) of Kakching outsmarted Maku Phairong Binita (Thoubal) by 5-0 points.
Lamameilu Gangmei (48 kg) of IE edged past Asha-kiran Ningthoujam Chanu (IW) by 3-2 points in U17 girls' quarterfinal.
In U19 women's quarterfinals, Sneha Thangjam Chanu (48 kg) of IE got a walkover, as Ngalangam Pheirei (48 kg) of Ukhrul had a 5-0 victory over Lantham Anjuta Chanu (Kakching) and Phuritshabam Renuka Devi (48 kg) won by RSC against Luthanliu Gangmei (Tamenglong) .
