Sub-Junior National Basketball C'ship : State lads beat Odisha 39-33 in league opener

Imphal, December 16 2024: Manipur lads got off to a winning start in the Sub-Junior National Basketball Championship as they beat Odisha 39-33 in a Group F league match this morning.

The championship for both the sub-junior boys and girls is hosted by Telangana at SATG Indoor Stadium, Saroomagar in Hyderabad.

The two sides started on a competitive note and Manipur enjoyed a slender 20-19 lead till halfway mark before cruising to a 32-23 lead in the third period.

Odisha rallied back in the final period by adding 10 points against Manipur's 7 but their efforts were not enough as Manipur walked away 39-33 thanks to third quarter's boost.

For Manipur, Th Sotinchandra 12 and K Anderson 10 contributed a bulk of 22 points as Th Billgates 6 and A Shatish 3 gathered 9 points besides two points each contributed by O Barun, W Yohenba, Th Gison and P Shriyans.

Pratyush Mohapatra meanwhile led the scoring for Odisha as he netted 12 points followed by Ranjan Mohanty 7, SK Kasim 5, Mirza Zahur Baig 3, Aditya 2, Dibyanshu Panigrahi 2, and Amandeep Lakra 2 .

Manipur will play Uttarakhand in the next league match tomorrow evening (4 pm) before playing Assam in the final league match on December 8 (from 3.45 pm) .
