Manipur cap 42nd Sub Junior National Swimming Championship 2026 campaign with 12 medals

Imphal, August 10 2026: Manipur swimming team brought home 12 medals from the 42nd Sub Junior National Swimming Championship 2026 that concluded yesterday at Jaipur.

Manipur's medal haul includes 1 gold, 8 silver and 3 bronze medals. David Sapam produced a standout performance to win five individual medals including a gold medal while sharing a silver and a bronze medal in the relay events.

David Sapam, who competed in the Boys Group II (U-15) category, bagged the individual gold medal in the 100m Butterfly event with a time of 59.50 seconds.

He settled for silver medals in 50m Butterfly event with a time of 27.12 seconds, 200m Butterfly event in 2:10.92, 400m Freestyle event in 4:16.86 and 200m Freestyle event in 2:02.82 .

Koijam Athoiba and Laitonjam Punghen also bagged two medals apiece in individual events as Th Mangalsana bagged one.

Competing in the Boys' Group II (U-15) category, Koijam Athoiba bagged a silver medal in the 100m Freestyle yesterday with a time of 56.05 seconds as Abdul Hafeez of Tamil Nadu (54.87 s) and Anurag Chauhan of SSCB (56.46 s) made the 1-3 podium finishes.

Athoiba had earlier registered a bronze medal to his name in the 50m Freestyle by finishing third in 26 seconds.

Punghen meanwhile registered two silver medals by finishing second in 100m Butterfly (1:05.18) and 200m Individual Medley (2:31.75) events for Group III boys.

Th Magalsana added a bronze medal to State's tally yesterday with a time of 2:15.80 in 200m Butterfly event for Group II (U-15) boys.

The 4�100m Medley Relay team comprising Koijam Athoiba, David Sapam, Leishangthem Bishorjit, Nongmaithem Dhananjoy also won a silver medal with a time of 4:17.15 and a bronze medal in the 4�100m Freestyle Relay event with a time of 3:52.41 .

The State team were led by Laitonjam Santosh as coach and Laitonjam Kanta as manager.

Notably Karnataka emerged overall team champions with a haul of 10 gold, 10 silver and 19 bronze medals.
