CYLC, ESU get off to flying starts in 39th State Sub-Junior Basketball Championships

CYLC girls and ESU boys registered comfortable victories as the 39th State Sub-Junior Basketball Championships kicked off at Brahmapur Nahabam Basketball Court this evening.
In the girls' competition opening match, CYLC, Chingamathak beat LMYVA, Lalambung by 34-18 points thanks to Monali's leading 14-point performance that included a trey.
Henthoi followed with 8 points for the winners as Lingjelthoi and Lanjingbi added 5 points apiece and Lousingthou added 2 to make up 34 points.
For LMYVA, Hoshika Mayengbam scored 3 triples on the way to her highest 10 points as Nongthombam Merinda, Shreeya Deban, Miranda Mutum and Belia Mutum contributed 2 points apiece.
Later in the boys' opening match, ESU crushed LMYVA thanks to leading performances from Pangakpa (14 points), Bronson (12 points), Mangalsana (9 points including a triple) and Jivit (8 points).
Yohenba shone with 4 treys on the way to his 14-point finish but his effort went in vain.
He lacked support from other teammates except Nelson who managed a deuce to help the team amass 16 points.
6 boys and 4 girls' teams are competing in the tournament organised by the Manipur Basketball Association.
