The 1st Kanglei Chess Academy Inter School Chess Tournament continued to build momentum in its fifth round on Friday, showcasing promising talent from schools across Imphal.
In the top board clash, Khagokpam Nowboy (rated 1507) delivered a decisive victory over Mangal Elangbam (1710), bringing his total to 5 points.
Close behind, Dayanand Thoudam (1607) overcame Nadia Sougaijam (1497) in another high-stakes encounter.
Meanwhile, Khuman Einstein Maibam (1562) secured a critical win against Dinesh Chabungbam (1412), maintaining strong contention at the top.
Among notable matches from younger divisions, Chirom Nungshiba, Malemnganba Huirongbam, and Tomsana Meinam recorded impres sive wins, demonstrating the depth of rising chess talent in the lower age categories (II to IV and I & Below).
Noteworthy performances also included: Frado Langpoklakpam, Talentson Thokchom, and Yoihenba Haobam, each earning full points in crucial mid-table matchups.
Leirikhomba Mangang, Veeral Mongjam, and Wangkhem Galbin stood out with commanding victories, reflecting the increasing competitiveness in the lower-rated brackets.
