69th State Open Badminton Championships 2025 : Stage set for U-17 boys singles' quarterfinals

Imphal, April 18 2025: The second day of the 69th State Open Badminton Championships 2025 being organised by the Manipur State Badminton Association saw completion of the quarterfinal line up of the U-17 boys' singles competitions. U-17 Boys Singles

Lourembam Thoungam notched up a 21-11, 21-4 win over Disin Gonmei to enter the last-8 stage of the competition before Thokchom P Dylan beat Beishamayum Shridath 21-4, 21-8 in another pre-quarterfinal match. Sapam Shyamchandra also reached the quarterfinals with a 21-4, 21-8 win over Naorem Jason today before Th Sanju eased 21-3, 21-9 past Sumit Kumar Pal in another pre-quarterfinal match.

Kyoveio Vemai also eased into the quarterfinals with a 21-6, 21-4 win over Oinam Mangal as Pheiroijam Neelachan outlasted Langdem Obama 21-11, 21-7; Yumnam Raj edged out Moirangthem Oken 16-21, 21-19, 21-17 and Chirom Bose saw off Ingudam Martin 21-15, 19-21, 21-18 in the remaining pre-quarterfinal matches.

U-11 Boys Singles

The day also saw Loitongbam Shannon, Salam Joyraj and 5 others advancing to the quarterfinals of the U-11 Boys' singles competition.

Shannon made it to the quarterfinals with a 21-1, 21-4 win over Salam Yohenba as S Joyraj got the better of Thiyam Kelvin 21-15, 21-19 in another pre-quarterfinal match.

In other pre-quarterfinal matches, Pukhrambam Joychandra and Heriquish Kh got walkover wins as Thingbaijam Lucky beat S Bhavesh 21-7, 21-3; Riyosnganba outlasted Soubam Pallepa 21-13, 21-6 and Nameirakpam Devasis beat P Delrique 21-11, 21-3 .

The day also saw Imphal East District Badminton Association (IEDBA) and Bishnupur District Badminton Association (BDBA) securing wins in women's and men's competition respectively.

In the women's competition, IEDBA overwhelmed Imphal West District Badminton Association (IWDBA) by 3-0 margin thanks to stellar performances from Ksh Maheshwari and Konsam Gunjan.

Ksh Maheshwari opened the scoring for IEDBA by defeating Tayenjam Leonie 21-8, 21-11 in the first singles match before K Gunjan sealed the second point by defeating Laishram Anjelia 21-12, 21-9 in the second singles match.

Ksh Maheshwari and Konsam Gunjan then landed the final blow by defeating the pair of Ashangbam Devika and T Leonia 21-11, 21-13 in the following doubles match.

Meanwhile the men's team of BDBA pulled off a hardfought 3-2 victory against IWDBA.

Oinam Aimson earned BDBA the lead by securing 15-21, 21-18, 21-16 win over Lourembam Thoungam of IWDBA but IWDBA drew level through Chirom bose who managed to beat Hemam Malemnganba 10-21, 22-20, 23-21 in the second singles match.

BDBA retained the 2-1 lead with Konthoujam Dingku and Khairakpam Manjit securing a 21-17, 21-18 win over Chirom Vikson and RK Ronald but Thokchom Hursh of IWDBA defeated Martin Ingudam 14-21, 21-17, 21-13 in the following singles match to make it 2-2 .

BDBA however emerged on top as the pair of Haobijam Rohenkumar and RK Alen defeated the pair of Chirom Bose and L Thoungam 21-17, 21-11 in the deciding doubles match.
