State Open Badminton Championships : 10 BDBA and IWDBA shuttlers in Men's Singles Round of 16

Imphal, August 12 2026: As many as 10 Bishnupur District Badminton Association (BDBA) and Imphal West District Badminton Association (IWDBA) shuttlers are into the Round of 16 of the Men's Singles competition of the Yonex-Sunrise 70th State Open Badminton Championships being underway at MSBA Indoor Stadium, DMU Campus.

The third day of the championships saw Sushanta Moirangthem of Kakching District Badminton Association (KDBA) ease past Imphal East District Badminton Association's (IEDBA) Kshetrimayum Avinash 15-0 15-2 in the first Round of 32 clash before Kalenyai Khwairakpam of BDBA outlasted IWDBA's Neel Wangkhem 14-16 15-10 16-14 .

In the third match, L Kalo Truman of Senapati District Badminton Association (SDBA) defeated Kasprov Ahanthem of IWDBA 15-8 15-9 to advance into the pre-quarterfinals as Martin Ingudam of BDBA outlasted Jiribam District Badminton Association's (JDBA) N Givson Meitei 15-13 15-5; Wungmayo Vashum of SDBA outlasted MPSC's Heikrujam Punshiba 8-15 15-12 15-9; Oinam Aimson of BDBA defeated IWDBA's Upananda Rajkumar 15-11 15-13 and Konjengbam Nganba of IWDBA eased to a 15-8 15-9 win over Roshan Ingudam of JDBA .

Khomdram Netij Acceber of BDBA also made it to the last-16 round with an easy 15-8 15-8 win over Leiphrakpam Mahesh Meitei of 15-8 15-8 Thoubal District Badminton Association (TDBA) as Chingangbam Ritesh of IWDBA beat JDBA's Mutum Blessing Meetei 15-0 15-6; Chirom Bose of IWDBA edged out SDBA's Pfoki Liruna 15-10 9-15 15-7; Mongjam Vivek Meitei of IWDBA beat BDBA's Brikson Longjam 15-4 16-14; Lourembam Thoungam of IWDBA beat IEDBA's Jomi Singam 15-9 15-11; Bikash Mayanglambam of KDBA got the better of SDBA's Taveio 15-4 15-8; and Hemam Malemnganba of BDBA outlasted IWDBA's Surjit Nongthombam 15-1 15-5 .

U19 Boys' Singles

Moirangthem Prince and 7 others reach Round of 16 in U19 Boys' singles competition.

In a Round of 32 clash, Moirangthem Prince of KDBA edged out IWDBA's Sapam Shyamchandra 19-17 14-16 15-13 before Neel Wangkhem of IWDBA edged out Thoitak Vandam Chiru of Tamenglong District Badminton Association (TMDBA) 13-15 15-10 15-13 and Denish Tekcham of TDBA beat IEDBA's Seram Sonson Meitei 15-10 15-8 .

In the fourth Round of 32 match, Yumnam Raj of IWDBA eased to an easy 15-5 15-4 win over KDBA's Kshetrimayum Thoithoiba before Khomdram Netij Acceber of BDBA overcame JDBA's Mutum Blessing Meetei 15-3 15-10; Mongjam Vivek Meitei of IWDBA outlasted JDBA's N Givson Meitei 15-6 15-5; Roshan Ingudam of JDBA beat IWDBA's Chabungbam Naman 15-9 15-11 and Langdem Obama of IWDBA edged out KDBA's Jason Naorem 15-13 14-16 15-9 .

U17 Boys' Singles

The day also saw the completion of pre-quarterfinal line up of the U17 Boys' Singles competition with the completion of the Round of 32 .

In the first Round of 32 encounter, Sapam Shyamchandra of IWDBA eased past KDBA's Mayanglambam Rustum 15-9 15-6 as compatriot Huidrom Rana outlasted Mekho Vemai of SDBA 15-12 15-11 in the second match.

Thoitak Vandam Chiru of TMDBA meanwhile got the better of IWDBA's Sumit Kumar Pal 15-8 15-8 to seal his place in the Round of 16 before Seram Sonson Meitei of IEDBA beat KDBA's Kshetrimayum Thoithoiba 18-16 15-7; Yumnam Raj of IWDBA overwhelmed TDBA's Kongkham Anishumar 15-0 15-7 and Yengkhom Nirmal of IWDBA eased past IEDBA's Mayanglambam Khilan 15-11 15-6 .

KDBA's Jason Naorem also entered the Round of 16 with a 15-13 15-10 win over Konjengbam Nongleikhomba of IWDBA before Gurumayum Shattya Sharma of BDBA eased past SDBA's Siipunii Martin V 15-6 15-5; Moirangthem Kelvin of IWDBA crushed SDBA's Revampson Chalamva 15-8 15-2 and Langdem Obama of IWDBA got the better of KDBA's Naorem Telheiba 15-9 15-10 .

Moirangthem Prince of KDBA meanwhile pulled off an easy 15-3 15-7 win over IWDBA's Salam Rajnath to advance into the Round of 16 as Beishamayum Shridath of IWDBA beat IEDBA's Moirangthem Prince Meitei 15-12 15-11; Denish Tekcham of TDBA beat IEDBA's Yangba Meitei Thokchom 11-15 15-13 15-9; Oken Moirangthem of KDBA) (IWDBA) Thoithoiba Naoroibam 15-3 15-2; Chintu Haobam of IWDBA beat BDBA's Rajkumar Rendish 18-20 15-8 15-10; Neelachal Pheiroijam of IWDBA beat KDBA's Leonard Waikhom 15-8 16-14 in the other Round of 32 clashes.
