Imphal, October 28 2008: IT HAS been like a culture in the past few years for businessman and politicians to involved in the field of sports.

Likewise, there has been involvement of politicians and businessman in the Manipur Olympic Association from time to times.

Two sitting MLAs, two retd chief engineers, a commissioner of state government and a regional director of Sports Authority of India will fight in the upcoming election of the MOA which scheduled on November 2 .

Sitting MLA Bijoy Koijam will be a representative of Manipur Badminton Association (MBA) for the presidentship and will face retd chief engineer PWD Elangbam Binoykumar, who is holding the post of MOA representative of Manipur Basketball Association.

For the vice president election which will elect six vice representatives, 12 candidates have so far submitted their nomination paper.

President of Canoeing and Kayaking Association, MLA Irengbam Hemochandra as a representative of the association will fight the election for vice president.

AK Surjit as a representative of Athletic Association, Regional Director of SAI I Tiken, S Joykumar as a representative of Equastrian Association, Y Ranbir of Cycling Association, A Jiten of Kabaddi Association, Commissioner of state government IAS S Budhachandra as a representative of Manipur Equastrian Association, retd chief engineer PWD and former Chairman of Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) Th Joykumar as a representatice of Fencing Association, K Jayananda of Triathlon Association, G Munindro of Hockey Association, Proprietor of MM Gas Agency, M Modhumangol of Shooting Association and present Secretary of Rowing Association Y Budhachandra will fight the election for the chair of vice president.

Laishram Manglem of Manipur Handball Association will face Dr G Ibopishak of Archery Association in the secretary election.

Khoibi Salam of Boxing Association and S Indrakumar of Manipur Judo Association will fight for the chair of Treasurer.

For the chair of Joint Secretary, G Ashok of Manipur Rowing Association, N Phony of manipur Wrestling Association, S Chandra of Manipur Table Tennis Association, S Modhusudon of Manipur Kho-Kho Association, M Romen of Swimming Association, T Dushanta of Manipur Canoeing and Kayakking Association and SO S.Pritamkumar of Manipur Fencing Association will fight in the election.

Other 20 candidates will also fight for the 10 members of the executive council.

Returning officer of the upcoming election W Sushilkumar today check after the nomination paper of the representatives.

The election for executive council will be held at 9 am and the main election will start just after the election of executive council concluded.

Candidates are busy in election campaign as there is not much time in the election.
