Ranji Trophy Plate Group : Manipur trail by 431 runs as Agni Chopra's double ton fires Mizoram to 536 in first innings

Imphal, October 27 2024: Manipur are trailing behind by 439 runs as they closed out the second day at 105/4 in 40 overs after Mizoram posted a massive total of 536 runs in their first innings of their third Ranji Trophy Plate Group tie at Gokulbhai Somabhai Patel Stadium, Nadiad in Gujarat.

Mizoram posted the commanding total of 536 in 137.1 overs thanks to a double ton from Agni Chopra (218 off 269 balls; 29 fours and 1 six) and half centuries from Jehu Anderson (67 off 110 balls; 13 fours), Mohit Jangra (60 off 110 balls; 7 fours) and Vikash Kumar (55 off 113 balls; 7 fours and 1 six) .

For Manipur, Konthoujam Bishworjit (3/88 in 26 overs including 2 maidens) and Pheiroijam Jotin (3/91 in 27 overs including 6 maidens) shared a bulk of six wickets as Sultan Karim picked two wickets (2/113 in 30.1 overs) and RK Rex (1/51 in 19 overs including 5 maidens) and Ahsanul Kabir (1/89 in 21 ) shared a picked a wicket apiece.

Mizoram resumed the day at 375 with Agni Chopra 170 and Mohit Jangra 38 batting and the pair added 45 more runs to forge the highest partnership of 157 runs off 215 overs in the innings before K Biswhorjit removed Mohit Jangra on 60 in the 103rd over.

RK Rex then bowled out KC Cariappa for a 4-ball 4 for the 6th wicket.

Bishworjit Konthoujam then got rid of set batter Agni Chopra for 218 runs to reduce Mizoram to 483/7.Vikash Kumar, who made a 57 run-partnership with Agni Chopra, held on to pair up with Bobby Zothansanga and gathered another 40 runs before Bishworjit trapped Bobby Zothansanga lbw on 16 runs in the 131st over to complete his haul of three wickets and break the partnership.

Pheiroijam Jotin, who picked the second and third wickets yesterday, then undone Vikash Kumar on 55 for the 9th wicket in the 134th over before Sultan Karim undone G Lalbiakvela to end the innings.

After the innings break, Karnajit Yumnam and Md Al Bashid kicked off the Manipur innings with a 47 run partnership before KC Cariappa removed Al Bashid for 23 runs for the first wicket.

KC Cariappa then undone M Langlonyamba (8) cheaply for the second wicket before bowling out Y Karnajit on 39 to complete his treble and reduce Manipur to 83/3 .

Moses then removed Sultan Karim on a 17-ball duck for the fourth wicket as the scoreboard read 92 in 37.1 overs.

Johnson 13 and Ph Jotin 13 were batting as Manipur post 105/4 at stumps.
