Imphal, August 27 2022: Imphal West District Football Association (IWDFA) will face off against Imphal East District Football Association (IEDFA) for the women's football title in the 2nd Manipur Olympic Games being organised by Manipur Olympic Association.

In the first semi-final match of the competition staged at SAI Takyel Turf ground, IW women's beat Bishnupur 5-4 on penalties after a 3-3 draw during regulation time (8-7 aggregate) to seal the final berth.

IWDFA drew first blood with Ksh Naocha netting just two minutes into the game but had to fight back twice to salvage a 3-3 regulation time draw as Bishnupur cancelled off the early lead in the 8th minute through M Nandeshwori's strike.

After settling the first half in a 1-1 draw, Th Sanjita handed Bishnupur the lead in the 44th minute only to be equalised by Ch Binomala in the 54th minute.

A Roja broke the deadlock yet again in the 56th minute to give Bishnupur team the headway but Ch Binomala came to the rescue of IWDFA yet again by scoring the equaliser in the 63rd minute.

As the two sides remained locked at 3-3 draw till the end of the regulation time, the game was decided via penalty shoot-out wherein Ng Sweety, L Menaka, Sh Banti, M Sanjana and N Linthoinganbi all beat the Bishnupur custodian and sealed the win for IWDFA.

Only K Rebina, A Roja, O Babita and H Sunita found the target for Bishnupur women in the shoot-out.

Later in the other semi-final encounter, Y Kiran hit a brace to ensure IEDFA win 3-1 and enter the final.

Rinaroy opened the account for the winning side in the 14th minute before Y Kiran doubled the advantage and earned IEDFA a 2-0 first half lead.

Kiran then completed her brace in the 36th minute to make it 3-0.Ksh Margaret pulled back a goal late in the 51st minute for the Kakching team but they failed to sustain their momentum to add more goals.

Men's Football : IEDFA, DSA Churachandpur book semi-final tickets
IEDFA and DSA Churachandpur (CCPur) were able to seal their semi-final tickets in the men's football competition today here at Artificial Turf ground, Lamlong Thongkhong.

In the first quarter final match of the men's tournament participated by 15 teams, IEDFA edged out Kamjong 2-1 thanks to goals from Bilky Laitonjam (15') and Y Indranath (48').Ngachanso scored the only goal for the Kamjong team in the 73rd minute of the match.

Meanwhile in the second quarter final match, Churachandpur beat Ukhrul 5-3 on penalties after a goalless draw during the regulation time.

Paogunmaun, Peter, Khupminlun, Lalminlen and Siamminthang were on target for the Churachandpur team in the shoot-out while only Rungsing Muinko, Shomi Rongui and Vs Sayo scored for the Ukhrul team.

Earlier in the day, DSA Kakching edged out Tamenglong 3-2 and IWDFA beat Kangpokpi 1-0 to seal their quarter final berths.

Andre (45'), Ashokumar (55') and Samir (65') scored in DSA Kakching's 3-2 hard fought win over Tamenglong.

Lemuel Pamai (42') and Lovesonbou (68') scored for Tamenglong who failed to claw back into the game despite late chances and having the numerical superiority as Rishi Raj was sent off reducing Kakching to a 10-man team.

DSA Kakching will play DFA Thoubal in the third quarter final match tomorrow.

Meanwhile in the other match, IWDFA rode on Th Kishan's 59th minute goal to see off Kangpokpi 1-0 and set up quarter final date with Senapati.
