Athletes have vital role in making the Nation robust : L Geetranjan

Imphal, February 25 2026: The secretary of the Manipur Cricket Association, Lairenjam Geetranjan has stated that the athletes have an immense role in making the Nation formidable and robust.

He made the statement during the "Shannaroishingi Numit" observation organised by the Manipur Cricket Association at Luwangpokpa Cricket Stadium, Luwangsangbam today.

Speaking at the occasion, L Geetranjan said that the athletes are equally important and responsible for a Nation's development and growth.

As sports advocates for equality by providing the same platform to everyone regardless of their religious, caste, racial and economic backgrounds, all athletes should strive for victory and development of the Nation considering it as their playgrounds, he said.

Recalling Manipur's title success at the 5th National Games of 1999 and the significance of observing February 25 as the Shannaroishingi Numit or Players' Day since 2000, Geetranjan also called upon the athletes to excel in at least one disciplines and make all possible contributions towards the State and the Nation with conviction.

A friendly cricket match between MNCA Eleven and Sports Journalist Eleven was also held at the cricket stadium to mark the occasion.

Shannaroishingi Numit was widely observed across various locations of the State including Kakching and Thoubal by local civil organisations in association with AMUCO.

Local athletes who have been consistently carrying forward the rich sporting legacy of the State were also feted on the occasion besides organising sporting events.
