Th Suraj bags gold, S Boicha wins bronze at National Deaf Sports Champio

Imphal, June 24 2025: Manipur's Thokchom Suraj and Saikhom Boicha secured a medal apiece at the 27th National Deaf Sports Championship for Sub-Junior, Junior and Senior that concluded yesterday in Kanpur.

The championship that featured four sporting events-Karate, Wrestling, Judo, and Taekwondo was hosted by the Deaf Sports Association of Uttar Pradesh from June 13.Thokchom Suraj sealed a gold medal in the 50 kg category judo competition for junior boys while Saikhom Boicha settled for a bronze medal in the 81 kg category competition for senior men.

The team were led by Jakir Hussain as the coach and Moirangthem Premjit, secretary of All Manipur Sports Association for Deaf and Dumb, as the manager.

It is learnt that, winners of this championship will earn the opportunity to compete in the Deaflympics 2025 in Tokyo, Japan, scheduled from November 15 to 26 .

The team were accorded a warm reception today as they landed at Imphal International Airport.
