MU Inter College Men and Women's Volleyball Tournament begins

Imphal, October 22 2024: O Ibeton Memorial The Manipur University Inter College Men and Women's Volleyball Tournament kicked off today with 15 men's teams and 9 women's teams taking part in it.

The tournament is hosted by Thambal Marik College under the aegis of the Manipur University Sports Committee, Canchipur.

The opening day of the men's tournament saw completion of 6 first round matches and a quarterfinal match while three matches of the women's competition were completed today.

Men's competition

In the first quarter-final match, Imphal College outlasted Standard College in straight sets (25-21, 25-17, 25-13) to seal their place in the last-4 stage.

Earlier in the day, Imphal College made it to the quarters with a 25-18, 25-22, 25-12 win over United College, Chandel while Standard College got the better of Naorem Birahari College 25-17, 25-16, 25-17 .

In other first round matches, Maharaj Bodhc-handra College defeated MIT, Imphal 25-15, 25-14, 25-21; Mayai Lambi College earned a walkover win; Don Bosco College, Maram defeated Vishal Law College 25-9, 25-9, 25-6 and Thambal Marik College eased past Liberal College 25-8, 25-3, 25-7 to book their quarterfinal tickets.

Women's Competition

Modern College, Standard College and Nambol L Sanoi College all sealed semi-final tickets in the women's competition with their first round victories today.

Modern College edged out Imphal College 25-21, 25-21, 25-16 in the first match before Standard College beat Thambal Marik College 25-16, 25-9, 25-9 and Nambol L Sanoi College overwhelmed MIT, Imphal 25-5, 25-7, 25-8 .
