State Level JN Hockey Tournaments : UNACCO School, Iramdam Maheikol emerge U-17 boys and girls' champions

Imphal, August 22 2024: UNACCO School representing Imphal West district and Iramdam Maheikol, Langmeidong representing Kakching district emerged U-17 boys and girls' champions in the State Level JN Hockey Tournaments being hosted by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium.

In the three team U-17 boys tournament, UNACCO School who defeated Jai Hind High School, Mantripukhri of Imphal East by 10-1 goals yesterday registered a massive 15-1 win over Lalpani Government High School, Jiribam this morning to clinch the top honour.

Wahengbam Paikhomba (9', 13', 32', 50'), N Gerir (36', 39', 43', 46') and I Rohit (24', 41', 51', 54') contributed 4 goals apiece in UNACCO School's big win and M Thoiba (18', 28', 34') scored thrice as they led the first quarter 2-0 before taking a 5-0 lead after two quarters, 11-0 after third quarters and registered the 15-1 win at the end.

The consolation goal for the Imphal East team was scored by Aryan Pangambam in the 56th minute.

Lalpani Government High School Jiribam will play Jai Hind High School in the dead rubber match tomorrow morning from 8.30 am.

Meanwhile Iramdam Maheikol topped the three team U-17 girls tournament as they notched up a comfortable 8-0 win over Jai Hind High School this morning before cruising to a 7-0 win over Five Star English High School, Thoubal later in the day.

Kharibam Shakhenbi led the scoring in the opening match of Iramdam Maheikol this morning by netting thrice (12', 14', 39') while Charoibam Yurina (7', 8') and Tongbram Lanchenbi (17', 25') scored two goals apiece.

N Ashakiran (28') scored the other goal in the second quarter.

Shakhenbi (23', 39', 42') also scored thrice in their final league match against their Thoubal rivals as N Ashakiran (26'), Nameirakpam Malem (46'), Jerina Chongtham (50') and Haobijam Silky (58') contributed a goal apiece to set up the 7-0 win.

Thoubal, Jiribam victorious in U-15 Boys' Tournament

Five Star English High School of Thoubal district and Lalpani Government High School of Jiribam district secured victories in Group A and B matches in the U-15 boys tournament.

In the lone Group B match, Lalpani Government High School romped 8-0 past TG English School of Bishnupur district courtesy of prolific scoring performance from H Boiton who netted five goals alone (28', 31', 52', 54', 59') .

Maibam Manimatum (47', 49') also added twice in the team's victory as W Vishal added one (29') .

With the result, Lalpani Government HS emerged Group B winners.

Despite the loss, TG English School qualified for the semi-final from the 2-team group.

In the penultimate Group A match staged later, Five Star English High School of Thoubal won 7-2 against Jai Hind High School, Mantripukhri thanks to doubles from S Telson (38', 44') and Dhanajit RK (47', 50') .

Ng Pritam Meitei (22'), Th Abinash (33') and Th Wanglen (53') also scored a goal apiece in the Thoubal team's comfortable win that also assured them of a semi-final berth. Y Toresh (1') and W Indrew (35') were on target for the Imphal East team in this match.

They will play Iramdam Maheikol Langmeidong in the ultimate group match that will decide the Group winners tomorrow morning from 7 am .
