Polo tournament begins at Mapal Kangjeibung

Imphal, January 20 2025:
The DGAR Men and Women Polo Tournament commenced at the historic Mapal Kangjeibung today.
A total of 32 teams including 27 men's teams and 5 women's teams are participating in the tournament.
The tournament is being organised by the Assam Rifles as part of its Civic Action Program (CAP) in coordination with the All Manipur Polo Association (AMPA) .
Matches will be played upto February 8 .
Three teams from the Assam Rifles including a women team are participating in this event, said IGAR (South) in a statement.

IGAR (South) graced the opening ceremony as the chief guest, along with retired Lt Gen (Dr) Konsam Himalay Singh and Dr Konsam Saratchandra Singh, president, All Manipur Polo Association.
During the event, the IG emphasised on the need for players to put in their best and strive to improve their talent.
He highlighted the rich sporting heritage of Manipur and its historic association with Polo.
He exhorted upon the teams to preserve this unique legacy of Manipur.
The opening ceremony drew around 2000 spectators, including students from Sainik School Imphal and cadets of the NCC.
The Assam Rifles Pipe Band gave a spectacular performance, adding grandeur to the event.
