52nd Junior National Aquatics C'ships 2026 : Laitonjam Lanchenba opens Manipur's account with butterfly stroke silver

Laitonjam Lanchenba gave Manipur a flourishing start by securing a silver medal as the 52nd Junior National Aquatics Championships-2026 kicked off today at Bhubaneswar.
The championship hosted by Odisha Swimming Association under the aegis of the Swimming Federation of India will run till August 23 .

The opening day of the championship saw Lanchenba claiming the silver medal in the 50 m butterfly stroke for Boys Group-I (B) with a time of 25.73 seconds.
It was a close fight among the podium finishers as Krishna Yadav of Uttar Pradesh clocked 25.48 seconds to seal the gold and Ronel Retnam E J of Tamil Nadu registered 25.76 seconds to settle for the bronze medal.
Notably, Lanchenba shattered three National records in the Boys Group-II competition in the previous edition of the National championship held in Ahmedabad.
Lanchenba is the son of Laitonjam Kanta and Takhellambam Sonia of Singjamei Mathak Thokchom Leikai, who currently reside in Singjamei Wangma Bheigyabati Leikai.
Lanchenba reads in Class XI (Arts) at Nongpok Maheikol.
