70th State Open Badminton Championships : Sushanta Moirangthem and five others progress into Men's Singles quarters

Imphal, August 13 2026: Sushanta Moirangthem and five others are into the quarterfinals of the 70th State Open Badminton Championships 2026 being underway at Manipur State Badminton Association Indoor Stadium, DMU Complex.

Sushanta Moirangthem of KDBA eased past Kalenyai Khwairakpam of BDBA 15-5 15-6 in the first pre-quarterfinal encounter today before Martin Ingudam of BDBA got the better of SDBA's L Kalo Truman 15-11 15-7 .

Lourembam Thoungam meanwhile outlasted Mongjam Vivek Meitei 15-4 15-13 in an all IWDBA clash before Thokchom Hursh of IWDBA beat SDBA's Wungmayo Vashum 15-12 15-8.IWDBA's Chirom Bose also made it to the quarterfinals with a 15-11 15-8 win over Sirzeet Moirangthem of IEDBA as Hemam Malemnganba of BDBA outlasted KDBA's Bikash Mayanglambam 15-13 15-7 .

Earlier in the day, Thokchom Hursh reached the last-16 round with a 15-13 15-13 win over Wahengbam Juvaraj of KDBA .

Mixed Doubles

The day also saw completion of 6 Round of 16 clashes of the Mixed Doubles competition.

The pair of Ningombam Nandaraj and Soraisam Kanchan reached the quarterfinals of the Mixed Doubles competition today with a 15-13 15-11 win over Hitler Nongthomba and Khumanthem Shellina.

In another Round of 16 match, Konjengbam Nganba and Angita Naorem combined well to get the better of Bonson and Vezhone Velarie 15-8 15-12 before Wahengbam James and RK Miranda eased past the pair of Shushilkumar Haobam and Yangambam Bidyaluxmi 15-4 15-9 .

Bidyasagar Salam and Mayanglambam Somibala, meanwhile notched up an easy 15-2 15-3 win over Taveio and Veronica before Haobijam Rohenkumar and Chirom Bellarix thumped Ningombam Henary and Sanatombi Chanu 15-3 15-5 and Sirzeet Moirangthem and Huidrom Velinda edged out Chirom Vikson and Khangembam Senlina 6-15 15-12 15-7 .

Women's Singles

The day also saw Imphal East shuttlers dominate in 5 of the 7 Round of 16 matches of the Women's Singles competition.

Biksiya Huidrom of IEDBA entered the quarterfinals of the competition with a 15-11 15-8 win over SDBA's Lezhone before compatriot Salam Lekina beat SDBA's Charainai Roziina 15-12 15-7.IEDBA's Laishram Nandita then got the better of NDBA's Mahaila Malangmei 15-5 15-9 before compatriots Angom Lanchenbi beat SDBA's Kachuiwon 15-2 15-0 and Konsam Gunjan beat IWDBA's Ashangbam ka 15-6 6-15 15-12.Angita Naorem of IWDBA, on the other hand pulled off an easy 15-8 15-7 win over Khwairakpam Roshmi of BDBA as BDBA's Dolly Rajkumari outlasted Florence of SDBA with a comeback 10-15 15-10 15-6 win.

U17 Girls

Senapati girl Leveine Kho Pou was also seen entering the quarterfinals of the U17 Girls' Singles competition as she beat KDBA's Kshetrimayum Tamphasana 15-12 15-13 but her two compatriots- P Khuhrine and Hraveine suffered exits.

Sanatombi Chanu Thounaojam of JDBA handed P Khuhrine a 15-13 16-14 defeated before Ashima of CRPF had an easy 15-4 15-3 win over Hraveine.
