Imphal, July 13 2026:
AG Memorial Academy, Thoubal were crowned the U-17 Boys' champions of the State Level Subroto Mukerjee Football Tournament organised by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports at Langjing Achouba Football Turf.
AG Memorial Academy beat ASUFII Christian Institute, Senapati by 4-2 goals to seal the top honour today.
Sani scored a brace (28', 29') forASUFII Christian Institute but his effort fell short as AG Memorial rode on a second half double to walk away 4-2 winners.
Compitison (16') and Ambison Athokpam (20') had earlier found a goal apiece to put AG Memorial ahead before Sani scored back to back to put the Senapati side on level terms.
Yoyo Sagolsem, however, retained the lead for the Thoubal team after 50 minutes before Competition had his second in the 50th minute to seal the 4-2 victory.
The age-group competition was, however, hit by a disqualification crisis after the TG English School team were barred from the final for allegedly "fielding six overage players".
Addressing the media at the Manipur Press Club, school Principal Leimakhujam Bullet strongly condemned the late-stage disqualification.
He explained that after his team fought their way to the final, the tournament organizers demanded a sudden medical age re-verification.
The team were subsequently disqualified when six players were ruled overaged, he said.
L Bullet emphasized that this was not the school's first appearance at the prestigious tournament, asserting he was fully aware of the competition rules.
He noted that the squad had already cleared a series of official medical screenings, making the organizer's eleventh-hour disqualification incredibly unfortunate and unfair.
Highlighting the school's impeccable track record - having reached the Subroto Cup International semifinals in 2023 and clinched the championship title in 2024 - the Principal categorically stated he had absolutely no reason to risk fielding overage.
