Imphal, July 07: Meiraa, Bashikhong pipped SAI RC, Takyel 6-5 via sudden death and gained the bonus point in the opening match of the 14th State Level Women's Hockey Championship at the Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium today.

With normal period tied at one goal apiece, A Arunkumari (27th) scoring for the eventual winner and Kh Nirmala nettting the SAI equaliser two minutes later, penalty shoot-out was applied to decide the winner but ended inconclusive as both sides scored three goals each out of five attempts.

S Loibi, N Punam and Ch Sunibala converted their attempts into goal for the Bashikhong side while MC Roji, W Mandakini and Kh Nirmala scored for SAI.

In the sudden death, Ch Sunibala and N Inakhunbi stroked to successes from the Bashikhong side's four attempts compared to only Kh Nirmala of SAI beating the rival custodian from the spot.

Ideal Club, Tera is the third team taking part in the championship being organised by Manipur Women's Hockey Association.

Earlier, the championship was inaugurated by Deputy Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Th Shyamkumar.

President of the host Association N Momon Devi and Wangoi AC's MLA S Joy Singh also graced the occasion as the president and guest of honour respectively.
