Imphal, January 03 2013: Imphal West DFA took a step closer to clinching the title of the 11th Junior Girls Inter District Football tournament with a 2-1 victory over Imphal East DFA while Imphal East DFA seniors avenged first match loss with a 4-1 hammering of their arch rivals Imphal West DFA in the second match at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium today.

With the first of the three match series between the junior rivals played yesterday ending in a goalless draw, the Imphal West girls need only a draw on January 5 to wrest the title as goals from Dangmei Grace (21st) and Ng Anibala (24th) today put them in an advantageous position.

Bijeta netted the Imphal East goal in the 37th minute.

In the third and final match of the 13th edition of the senior women's competition, also on December 5, Imphal East would be looking for an outright win as Imphal West had clinched a 3-0 victory yesterday.

Giving a much improved performance in the second match today, Imphal East succeeded in translating their dominance into goals with G Radharani (20th, 60th), Mandakini (62nd) and Tejibala (65th) sharing the spoils.

For Imphal West, Madhavi netted the face saver in the 74th minute.

Dr Kanti hockey: The 14th Dr Kanti Mukherjee Memorial Invitation hockey tournament organised by Hockey Manipur will begin from January 20 for which teams should confirm participation within January 15 .
