Imphal, December 24 2019: Exceptional bowling performances by Doren and Simon helped NAPSA, Kha Imphal restrict YWC, Langthabal to 62 runs en route to their 7 wicket triumph in the 17th Manipur Veteran Cricket Tournament final staged today at Langthabal Public Ground.

YWC had a dismal innings after winning the toss and opting to bat first as NAPSA's Doren picked up five wickets in 5 overs and his team mate Simon sealed 4 wickets in 4.5 overs to completely dismantle their batting line up for 62 runs in 15.5 overs of their 30 over quota.

YWC's Kumarjit, who saw his team mates on the other end go out in regular interval, made a brave effort in the beginning but had to join his friends in the stand as he got out in the 26th ball he faced with the best figure of 29 runs before his team fell to 62 runs for 10 in 15.5 overs.

Priyokumar of the same team also made his name on the scoresheet for his contribution of 8 runs in 12 balls.

In the chase, NAPSA took only 12.5 overs to reach the target at the cost of 3 wickets.

Bipin managed 25 runs in 34 balls while Bhogen gathered another 14 runs to put NAPSA to a sniffing distance of a big win in this innings despite Priyokumar of YWC dismissing all three wickets alone in his spell of 6 overs.

Doren of NAPSA who picked up 5 valuable wickets was named man of the match.

The final match and the valedictory function of the tournament was graced by W Bhaktaraj Singh, Retd Director, YAS; N Indrajit Singh, president, Manipur Veteran Cricket Association (MVCA); Aheibam Sunanda Devi, Pradhan, Langthabal Naorem Leikai GP; Ch Chaoba Singh, Retd Addl Director, Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Manipur; RK Bidur Singh, advisor MVCA; E Bhorot, Asst Prof, Lilong Haoreibi College (donor-winners); Dr A Herojit Singh, Prof, CAU (donor-runners up); A Birendra Singh, vice president, MVCA as dignitaries who also feted the participants.

Winners, NAPSA were feted with a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 15,000 while runners up, YWC were awarded a cash prize of Rs 12,000.Man of the series, S Kumarjit of YWC who managed 107 runs total and 5 wickets throughout the tourney and Doren of NAPSA Kha Imphal who emerged man of the final match were also feted each with Rs 1,000 cash prize.

Highest run getter, Thoithoiba Singh (111 runs) of CYCLONE was also feted with a cash prize of Rs 1,000 apart from his team mate Surjit and CHAMP's Bablu jointly receiving highest wicket taker prize of Rs 1,000 for their 9 wicket feats.

LCCC's Shrinivash (91 runs), Jillangamba (55 runs) and Rakesh (50 runs); CYCLONE's Thoithoi (55 runs), Bikom (60 runs) and Robindro (59 runs); YWC's S Kumarjit (53 runs) and Ninghor of OSCAR (55 runs) were also encouraged with cash prize of Rs 500 each for scoring 50 and more runs in a match.
