Former Youth Affairs and Sports Minister and Bishnupur AC MLA Govindas Konthoujam expressed pride over Manipur's consistent dominance in games and sports, producing numerous Olympians.
Speaking as the chief guest of the International Olympic Day celebration hosted by Manipur Hockey at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium, Govindas praised Manipur's determination and Olympic spirit, despite limited infrastructure.
He acknowledged Manipur Hockey's role in producing world-class players and assured possible assistance to nurture more quality athletes.
Emphasizing the theme's significance, he stressed the power of unity and the importance of promoting friendship and understanding through sports.
Wangkhei AC MLA Thangjam Arunkumar, who also attended the event, highlighted the importance of cultural exchange and better understanding among people.
He expressed confidence that Manipur's sporting prowess could grow further with efficient guidance and modem infrastructure.
Arunkumar also assured special schemes for athletes once the popular Government is installed.
The event was attended by prominent guests, including Manipur Hockey President Khoirom Loyalakpa; Commandant of 33 AR, Col Radha Krishna, and Additional SP (Ops) Imphal East, Y Joyraj.
Hockey Olympian Kothajit was felicitated, and an exhibition hockey match marked the occasion.
The day was organised with the theme- "Let's Move Together for Health and Community".
The day is celebrated annually commemorating the formation of the International Olympic Committee in Paris on June 23, 1894 .
