70th State Open Badminton Championships : Hemam Malemnganba, Angita Naorem claim Men and Women's Singles titles

Imphal, August 16 2026: Hemam Malemnganba and Angita Naorem emerged as the Men and Women's Singles champions in the 70th State Open Badminton Championships that concluded yesterday at Manipur State Badminton Association's indoor stadium at DMU Campus.

Hemam Malemnganba faltered in the opening set in an all BDBA final yesterday but bounced back and beat Martin Ingudam 4-15 15-12 15-7 to lift the top honour.

Angita Naorem of Imphal West on the other hand laid her hands on the Women's Singles trophy with a 15-12 15-10 win over her Imphal East rival Angom Lanchenbi Devi.

Angom Lanchenbi, however, recovered herself from the Women's Singles defeat to win the U19 Girls Singles title by defeating Leoni Tayenjam of Imphal West 15-9 17-15 in the final.

Kakching's Sushanta Moirangthem meanwhile earned the U19 Boys' Singles title by handing Thokchom Hursh of Imphal West a 15-5 17-15 defeat.

Chanulembi Sapam meanwhile beat Laishram Anjelia 15-12 15-13 in an all Imphal West final to win the U17 Girls' Singles title as Sapam Shyamchandra of Imphal West bagged the U17 Boys' Singles title by getting better of Moirangthem Prince of Kakching 15-12 15-13 in the final.

Ng Yaiphaba Singha of Jiribam meanwhile earned the U15 Boys' Singles title by beating Imphal East's Yangba Meitei Thokchom 11-15 15-13 15-11 in a hardfought final encounter.

Sarungbam Archana of Imphal East on the other hand claimed the U15 Girls' Singles title by beating Jia Sanabam of Jiribam 15-7 15-11 in the final.

The U13 Boys' Singles title meanwhile went to Nameirakpam Devasis of Imphal West who beat compatriot Shannon Loitongbam 16-14 15-11 in the title clash.

Imphal West duo of Chingangbam Ritesh and Chirom Vikson were the Men's Doubles winners at the championships as they defeated BDBA pair of Kh Amarjit and Kh Manjit 13-15 15-9 15-12 as IWDBA-KDBA pair of Bidyasagar Salam and Mayanglambam Somibala claimed the Mixed Doubles title by beating BDBA-IWDBA pair of RK Alen and L Diana 16-14 15-10 in the final.

Chanulembi Sapam and Leonie Tayenjam were also seen securing the U19 Girls' Doubles title as they beat Konsam Gunjan and Rekispa Soubam 8-15 15-10 15-8 in the final while the Boys' Doubles title went to Chirom Bose and Mongjam Vivek who thumped O Charles Babbage and RK Dhanaraj 16-14 15-6 in the ultimate clash.

Lairenmayum Luwangamba and Chanulembi Sapam in the meantime secured the U17 Mixed Doubles title as they defeated Ph Neelachal and RK Dolly 15-8 15-8 in the final.

Luwangamba also paired well with Yumnam Raj to win the U17 Boys' Doubles title as they beat Neelachal and S Shyamchandra 15-13 15-12 in the final before Ng Yaiphaba Singha and Yangba Meitei fought their way to the U15 Boys' Doubles title by beating Leonard Waikhom and Mahesh Sanasam 15-13, 15-8 .

Jiribam's K Sonakshi clinches U15 Girls' Singles title

Jiribam's K Sonakshi sealed the title of the U15 Girls' Singles competition on August 14 following an easy 15-5 15-11 triumph over Moirangthem Jenelia Devi of Imphal West.

K Sonakshi Singha had reached the final earlier in the day with a hardfought 15-12 17-15 win over Sarungbam Archana Devi while Jenelia Devi outlasted Jia Sanabam 14-16 15-8 15-13 to complete the final line up.

The U19 Mixed Doubles title meanwhile went to the SDBA and IEDBA pair of L Kalo Truman and Konsam Gunjan Devi.

The duo combined well to pull off a 10-15 15-13 15-13 comeback win over BDBA and IWDBA pair of Khwairakpam Amarjit Singh and Chirom Bellarix Devi to earn the title.

In the same day, IWDBA pair of Huidrom Velinda and Leimapokpam Diana Devi were crowned the women's Doubles crown as they prevailed 15-11 15-13 over IWDBA and KDBA pair of Leonie Tayenjam and Mayanglambam Somibala in the title clash.

On August 14, Delrique Pukhrambam of KDBA secured the U11 Boys' Singles title with a 15-7 15-12 win over TDBA's Riyosnganba Soubam while Chingkheinganbi Seram of IEDBA stunned KDBA's Rashithoi Ningthoujam 15-13 12-15 15-13 to seal the girls' title.

Riyosnganba Soubam and Salam Joyraj Singh, meanwhile, earned the U11 Boys' Doubles title by defeating the KDBA and BDBA pair of Delrique Pukhrambam and Hercules Laishram 15-12 15-11 .



Other final results

Jiribam's pair of Ng Yaiphaba Singha and K Sonakshi Singha on the other hand claimed the U15 Mixed Doubles title by getting better of BDBA and IWDBA pair of Mahesh Sanasam and Jia Sanabam 15-11 15-12 .

Elangbam Thoihenbi Dev and Sarungbam Archana Devi meanwhile sealed the U13 Girls' Doubles title by defeating Chingkheinganbi Seram and Rashithoi Ningthoujam 15-8 15-13 .
