Albertson Kom bags gold as Manipur end U-17 Boxing Nationals campaign with 4 medals

Imphal, April 12 2026: K Albertson Kom clinched a gold medal to help Manipur finish U-17 Boys and Girls National Boxing Championships held from April 4 to 11 at Nagpur, Maharashtra with 4 medals.

Manipur fielded a strong contingent of 22 boxers (12 boys and 10 girls) but K Albertson Kom emerged the only gold medallist as he topped the 60 kg category competition.

Meanwhile, L Mahesh of Premkumar Boxing Academy, who competed in the boys' 70 kg category and K Suchitra Devi of National Sports Academy, Imphal, who competed in the girls 54 kg category settled for a silver medal apiece.

The other medal came in the form of a bronze medal as Nelson Khwairakpam of National Sports Academy suffered a semi-final exit.

The team were managed by Kunja Ningthoujam with two coaches- Senjam Suresh and Rajesh.

Notably, Manipur's Thotreisho Keishing who is a One-Star R&J (Referee & Judge) of BFI, also attended the event.
