Manipur go down by 1 wicket to Meghalaya in State A Trophy

Manipur suffered a 1-wicket loss to Meghalaya in the second Plate Group tie of the ongoing State A Trophy at IS Bindra Cricket Stadium, PCA, Mohali today.
Asked to bat first, Manipur were bundled out for a modest total of 192 runs in 49.2 overs before Meghalaya struggled to the target with 1 wicket and 5 deliveries left to spare in a thrilling chase.
Somokanta topscored for Manipur in the first innings by adding 43 runs off 79 balls (1 six) followed by Heisnam Manikanta 30 off 49 (4 fours), K Kalyan 26 off 41 (2 fours), Hussain 23 off 35 (4 fours), and Md Aqeel Ahamed 23 off 28 (4 fours).
Manish (3/18 in 10 overs) and Santhosh (3/41 in 10 overs) shared 6 wickets for Meghalaya in this innings as D Marak (1/48 in 10 overs) and Gavineal Marpna (1/31 in 10 overs) claimed a wicket apiece.
In reply, Meghalaya also lost wickets in regular intervals but Rohit anchored with a 112-ball 65 and played a crucial 54-run partnership for the 7th wicket with Santhosh (32 off 55) after forging 83 runs with Josiah Momin (42 off 62) for the fifth wicket to take his team to a sniffing distance of a win.
Manipur's Md Aqeel Ahamed returned with the best bowling figures of 4/44 in 10 overs while Sanjit (2/ 37) and Kalyan (2/30) shared four wickets among them in a lost cause as GM Sangma 7 not out off 13 and D Marak 9 not out off 11 produced an unbeaten final wicket stand to take Meghalaya home.
Manipur will play Mizoram in the next match on November 13 at the same venue.
