YAS Employees Association suspends strike

Imphal, August 11 2026: The Youth Affairs & Sports Employees Association (YASEA) has suspended its ongoing strike and agitation following assurance given by the Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports to address the concerns raised by the employees regarding the posting of the Joint Director in the Department.

The Department of Personnel & Administrative Reforms, vide its Order dated August 10 2026, has issued a partial modification of its earlier Transfer & Posting Order dated 27 July 2026, whereby the additional charge of Joint Director, YAS has been withdrawn, YASEA said in a press release.

YASEA also extended appreciation to the Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports, for meeting the representatives of the employees, listening to their concerns and giving an assurance which has now been followed by appropriate Government action.

In view of this development, the Association has decided to suspend the ongoing agitation in good faith, so that the normal functioning of the Department and activities concerning sportspersons, athletes, coaches, youths and other stakeholders can resume without further disruption, it said.

The suspension of the strike, however, does not amount to withdrawal of the legitimate concerns raised by the employees, particularly the issue of the Joint Director (Administration), YAS post under the MCS cadre, that needs to be addressed through appropriate administrative review, it said.

As discussed with the Minister, the association will be submitting a detailed Memorandum of Demands and Suggestions, listing the changes that, in the considered view of the employees, are necessary for the better functioning of the Department and, ultimately, for the promotion and development of sports and youth affairs in the State, it said.

The association believes that employees and the Government are ultimately working towards the same objective- the development of sports and youth in Manipur.

The employees therefore hope that the concerns being raised will be addressed through constructive dialogue and appropriate administrative action rather than allowing them to become a continuing source of confrontation, it said.

The association remains committed to working constructively with the Government while continuing to raise issues essential for fairness to employees, efficient administration, institutional strengthening and the larger interest of sportspersons and the youth of Manipur, it added.
