NSA greets N Tomchou on clinching gold at Asian Junior weightlifting championship

Imphal, August 10 2026: The management, coaches, teachers and staff of the National Sports Academy (NSA) have extended heartfelt congratulations to Nameirakpam Tomchou on winning a gold medal at the Asian Junior Weightlifting Championship hosted by Uzbekistan in Tashkent.

Tomchou, son of Nameirakpam Amuba and Nameirakpam Ibemu of Ngairangbam Awang Leikai, claimed the Asian Junior Championship 60 kg category title by lifting a combined total of 266 kg (Snatch 116 kg -bronze medal in the segment) and Clean & Jerk 150 kg -a silver medal in the segment) .

He had also won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Youth & Junior Championships held earlier this year at Apia, Samoa, said NSA in a press release.

Tomchou is an alumni of the academy, who was admitted in 2017 and passed out from the academy in 2024 .

He received training under the supervision and guidance of coaches Chanambam Premita and Takhellambam Bobo during his 7-year tenure, it added.

NSA also extended more success in his future endeavours.
