Th Billgates, K Anderson, Th Gison star as Manipur roll on with 81-43 win against Assam

Manipur inched closer to knock-out stage as the State lads got the better of Assam by 81-43 points for the second straight Pool F win in the 50th Sub-Junior Boys National Basketball Championship being hosted by the Uttarakhand Basketball Association at Parade Ground Indoor Stadium, Dehradun.

The result came after Thokchom Gison led Manipur to a 101-49 win over Andhra Pradesh yesterday in the league stage opener.

Manipur led the first quarter 22-8 before taking a 29-19 lead till halfway mark.

Manipur then raced to a 53-31 lead after three periods before coming out 81-43 winners.

Thiyam Billgates stole the show scoring 3 triples on the way to his 21-point finish today as Keithellakpam Anderson and Thokchom Gison also continued their fine forms to add 19 points apiece to set up the comfortable win against Assam today.

Naorem Lanchenba (8 pts) and Potshangbam Shriyans (7 pts) also contributed 15 points to the State's tally as Chongtham Chitan, Asem Nelson and Achom Phoenix added 2 points apiece and Okram Barun converted one of the 5 free throws Manipur had in the second quarter.

Prince Singha meanwhile topscored for Assam adding 16 points alone as Arpit Sanjay followed with 7 points.

Darshil Borgohain and Mridupawan Dutta also added 6 points apiece for the team as Abhikumar Singh and Monish Singha added 3 points apiece and Raktim Kashyap added 2 points.

Manipur will play Meghalaya in the next match tomorrow afternoon from 2 pm in the next Pool F match.
