Imphal, August 02 2026: Imphal East District Fencing Association deservingly lifted the overall team title of the 22nd Governor's Cup State Level Fencing Championship with a rich haul of 25 gold, 21 silver and 32 bronze medals.

The 5-day championship was formally brought to a close in the presence of Sunil Elangbam, president Manipur Olympic Association; Sinam Pritakumar, president Manipur Fencing Association; Sorokhaibam Goutam, IPS, Dy Director MPTC and DIG (HQ/Adm); Haobam Sanghamitra, MPSC, Commandant 9th IRB among others as presidium members who led in distributing prizes to the meritorious fencers and district teams.

With the rich haul of 78 medals Imphal East team lifted the Governor's Cup as Imphal West team finished overall team runners with a haul of 6 gold, 4 silver and 11 bronze medals.

Winners of Cadet, Child, Mini, Sub-Junior, Junior and Senior categories were also feted with different trophies sponsored by various sports enthusiasts.

Final day highlight

The final day of the championship saw Imphal East fencers securing 3 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals in 5 competitions across junior and senior categories.

K Prithibiraj won Imphal East the senior men's Foil event gold medal by beating compatriot O Dinesh in the final as L Tomba of Imphal West and H Rabikumar of Imphal East sealed the bronze medals.

Ch Jetlee of Imphal East was the senior men's Epee event winner as he beat K Dronel of Imphal West in the final while Thoungamba of Thoubal and Ramakanta of Bishnupur settled for the bronze medals.

In the senior men's Sabre event, Yubraj Oinam of Bishnupur beat Seram Biju of Imphal East to seal the gold medal as Maxi Th of Imphal East and Moramba L of Imphal West shared the bronze medal podium.

S Alish Rungsung of Imphal West meanwhile won the senior women's Foil event gold medal by defeating Daiyarani of Imphal East in the title clash today as Imphal West's duo- Ph Anita and G Priyaluxmi settled for the bronze medal.

In the junior girls' Epee event, N Piyanganbi beat Chinglembi in an all Imphal East final to win the gold as Dibiya N of Senapati and N Jazzy of Imphal East settled for the bronze medals.
