Ngairangbam Nungshithoi wins 1st Kangba Intra Chess Tourney title

Imphal, July 01 2024: Ngariangbam Nungshithoi emerged the champions of the 1st Kangba Intra Chess Tournament 2024 organised by Kangba Chess Academy at Ningomthong Bazar Community Hall yesterday evening.

The one day tournament saw 19 players including one FIDE rated player compete for top honours in 5-round Swiss System with 25-minute and 15 second increment rule.

Nungshithoi earned as many as 5 points to seal the title trophy as Ngairangbam Lanchenba and Soibam Sunny finished second and third on the same 4 points.

Sanasam Borish (4 pts) and Angom Bhagyalaxmee (3 pts) were in the meantime adjudged best U-15 boy and girl and Kharibam Lamjingba (3 pts) and Loitongbam Luching (2 pts) were declared best U-10 boy and girl; Loitongbam Mayol (2 pts) and Ira Shankar (2 pts) were named best U-7 boy and girl respectively.

They were also feted with trophies as other players received consolation prizes and certificates.

The tournament was conducted by Ngairangbam Ratan (National Arbiter) as chief arbiter, said Kangba Chess Academy in a press release.
