Imphal, March 31 2015 : Prize distribution ceremony of the fifth annual Journalist Sports meet was held today at Manipur Press Club where Social Welfare and Co-operation Minister AK Mirabai, AMWJU president W Shamjai and MLA Kh Joykishan were seated on the dais as chief guest, president and guest of honour.

PRO Defence Wing, Ajay Kumar Sharma, PRO, AR Captain Akhil Dhawan and Athletic Association Manipur secretary Ito Tongbram attended the prize distribution ceremony as special invitees.

The fifth Annual Journalist Sports 2015 was held from March 5 to 8.Medal winners were presented trophies along with a cash prize of Rs 500 each.

The cash was donated by MLA Kh Joykishan and AK Mirabai.

Speaking at the ceremony, AK Mirabai conveyed gratitude towards the journalist community of the state for their sacrifices and hard work.

She urged the media fraternity to be united as one and work collectively in order to bring progressive changes in the society.

Adding that Manipur should host North East Journalists' Sports Meet in future, she assured necessary help.

Guest of honour, Kh Joykishan stated that journalists should report what actually is happening without taking any sides in view of the fact that Manipur is a conflict zone.

"The issue of Inner Line Permit in the State should be addressed effectively as the issue is central to protection of the indigenous population of Manipur", added Joykishan.

W Shamjai said that the journalists have a huge responsibility towards the State and every media person should be sincere while discharging their duties.

Soibam Maniton, staff reporter of Kangla Pao who was awarded the Late Gaurai Hi-Tech Banana Award 2013 recently was also felicitated at the prize distribution function.

Notably, The Sangai Express was the overall team champion in the Fifth Annual Journalists Sports Meet 2015 bagging ten medals which include six gold medals and four silver medals.
