Sakawrdai emerge champions of Lt Col Rajeev Bakhshi football tournament

The 19th edition of the Lt Col Rajeev Bakhshi Memorial Football Tournament, organised by Assam Rifles, came to a thrilling end on Monday, with a wreath laying in the memory of Lt Col Rajeev Bakshi, SM (P), followed by the final match at the Mini Stadium in Parbung, Pherzawl District, Manipur.
The tournament is held in the memory of Lt Col Rajeev Bakhshi, who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty while fighting insurgents in Manipur on January 20,2006 .
His bravery and selflessness have inspired generations and this tournament is a testament to his enduring legacy, said an IGAR press release.
This year's tournament saw 16 teams from Pherzawl, Churachandpur, and Mizoram compete in a series of league matches, quarterfinals, and semifinals.
The final match was played between Parbung Youth Club from Pherzawl district and Sakawrdai GSA from Mizoram, with a huge crowd gathering of approximately 5000 to cheer on their teams.
In a nail-biting final, Sakawrdai GSA emerged as the champions, defeating Parbung Youth Club by a 2-1 margin, the release added.
