DGAR Men & Women Polo tourney begins at Mapal Kangjeibung

The DGAR Men and Women Polo Tournament commenced on Saturday at the historic Mapal Kangjeibung.
The event is being organised by Assam Rifles as part of its Civic Action Program (CAP) in coordination with the All Manipur Polo Association (AMPA).
The opening ceremony was graced by the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) as the chief guest, alongside distinguished guests Lt Gen (Dr) Konsam Himalay Singh and Dr Konsam Saratchandra Singh, president AMPA.
In his address, the IGAR (South) emphasised the importance of perseverance and dedication among players, urging them to refine their skills while preserving Manipur's historic polo legacy.
He highlighted the state's rich sporting heritage and its unique connection with polo, encouraging participants to uphold and promote this tradition.
The tournament features 32 teams, including 27 men's and 5 women's teams, with matches scheduled to run until February 8, 2025.Notably, three teams from Assam Rifles, including the AR Women Polo Team, launched on May 7 last year, are competing in the event.
The opening ceremony attracted approximately 2,000 spectators, including students from Sainik School Imphal and NCC cadets.
The Assam Rifles Pipe Band captivated the audience with a remarkable performance.
